What’s the Word?

Fans of the online game Among Us know that sus means “suspicious.” And anyone who doesn’t know can now look it up in the dictionary! Sus is among the 370 words and phrases recently added to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary.

Merriam-Webster published its first dictionary in 1847. Since then, it has regularly made updates as the English language has changed. Words are added when they’ve been used by many people in the same way for a long period of time.

This year’s list of new words includes the adjectives cringe (meaning “embarrassing”) and janky (“of poor quality”). ICYMI, the dictionary also includes abbreviations. That term, short for “in case you missed it,” is now in the dictionary too.
