On March 18, more than 1 billion people around the world will celebrate the coming of spring with an explosion of color. Joyful crowds will gather in India and other countries and toss colored powder into the air and at each other. This holiday, called Holi (HOH-lee), is part of the Hindu religion. It’s meant to clear away the gray days of winter.

Holi also celebrates the triumph of good over evil and brightness over darkness. For people who’ve had disagreements, it’s a time to forgive and start fresh.
