I Build Bots!

Callum Daniel, age 12, turned his love of robots into a successful company.

When I was 4 years old, I met a robot called Titan at a vacation resort. It walked and talked and was so huge that its hands were the size of watermelons! From that moment, I wanted to build robots of my own. My mom bought me a kit for a talking robot, which took me nearly a month to build.

I wanted to learn all I could about robots and how they work. But I couldn’t find any robotics classes in our area, so I decided to start my own.

Four years ago, I started my own company, iCodeRobots. I got help from the staff at a college in my hometown of London, England. We give classes that teach kids how to build all kinds of robots. We also show kids how to write basic code. Those are the programming instructions that help their creations move and light up. Because of Covid-19, we can’t do classes in person, so we’ve been holding them over Zoom.

Some kids can’t afford to pay for my classes, so I teamed up with other tech companies to give free courses to 1,000 kids.

Looking Ahead

I love teaching kids the skills they’ll need to get good jobs in the future. I also want to use my passion for robotics to make a difference in the world. When I’m older, I plan to use my tech skills to help people like my grandfather, who lost his arm in an accident. He’s inspired me to learn how to build bionic limbs for other people like him.

Some people say robots are going to take over the world. I don’t think that’s going to happen! But I do believe that robots are going to play a big role in our everyday lives, so every kid should have the chance to learn robotics.
