It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a man on a flying skateboard! In August, French inventor Franky Zapata zoomed across the English Channel on a hoverboard he designed. The channel is a narrow stretch of water that separates France and England. Zapata completed the 22-mile trip in just 22 minutes.
Zapata calls his creation the Flyboard Air. It’s powered by fuel stored in his backpack. He first attempted to cross the channel in July but crash-landed while refueling.
“At one point, we thought to ourselves, ‘We are crazy, it won’t work,’” Zapata told reporters after his successful flight. “And when it does work, it’s just a magical moment.”
