Countless kids will visit trampoline parks this year. Are you one of them? If so, experts worry that you might be bouncing into trouble. In 2017, nearly 18,000 people landed in the emergency room after getting injured at trampoline parks. Accidents often happen when more than one kid jumps on a trampoline at the same time.
“Parks have rules against this, but it still happens all the time,” warns Dr. Michele LaBotz of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
But others say there’s no need to stop jumping. Some people point out that any physical activity can be risky. For example, in 2017, about five times more kids were injured while riding bikes than at trampoline parks.
“When following the rules, jumping at a trampoline park can be a healthy, fun experience,” says Bethany Evans from the International Association of Trampoline Parks.
